  Summer Music Camp 2024

(The camp will be held in Willow Park School, Blackrock)

Dancing
Dancing classes incorporate a variety of styles of dance learnt through fun. The styles of dance taught are:
Modern Hip-Hop
These classes teach the latest and coolest hip-hop moves which are designed to help and improve fitness and increse children's ability to dance and increase their rhythm.
Contemporary
These are great fitness classes which incorporate long flowing movements with some hip-hop steps put in too. Children dance to both world and popular music.
Rhythm and the beat are important fundamentals to dancing and children explore these fundamentals through bodily movement and foot work.

Song Writing
Students will be involved in the art of song writing with an experienced song writer. Themes or stories will be explored and lyrics penned. The song will be performed at the show at the end of each weekly camp.

Instruments
Children are introduced and exposed to a huge range of instruments. Visiting Instrumentalists come and visit the School of Music during the summer project and demonstrate, discuss and perform their instruments for the children. Instruments may include harp, trumpet, saxophone, flute, percussion, keyboard, violin, cello. Many children already take piano, voice, violin classes etc and they are given tuition with a view to performing at the variety show at the end of the project. All children will receive hands on experience and tuition in piano, violin, recorder and keyboard.

Music Theatre/Drama
Music-Theatre is a mixture of song and drama. Children explore and concentrate on the songs, plot, story, characters and dramatisation of a musical. Each week the students will focus on and perform highlights of a popular musical. The children will be coached in how to deliver a song impressively, acting, self expression, space, voice projection and general stage presence. Importance is given to presentation and dramatic awareness involving the children in choice and use of costumes and props.

“Conor thoroughly enjoyed the variety of this Summer Camp from dancing and singing to playing an instrument, great for confidence building” – Maria (Mum of Conor, aged 9)

“Our son did the Summer Music Camp and really enjoyed it. Having only recently starting to learn guitar, thanks to the teacher and the small group, he learnt loads and gained great confidence. There’s a lovely relaxed atmosphere and their teacher was really good. Highly recommend for any child interested in playing an instrument” – Siobhan (Mum of AJ, aged 11)

“My two girls had a wonderful week at your camp. They enjoyed every minute with lots of music education, singing, dancing

and fun all packed into one week! Thank you all again” – Hilary (Mum of Eva & Isabelle, aged 5)

“Highly recommend the Dun Laoghaire School of Music Summer Camp. We will be back again!” –

Claire (Mum of Stephanie, aged 6)

“John absolutely LOVED the camp and seemed to enjoy every minute of it and wants to go again next year. He said he wished that school was like the camp all the time! He took an interest again in his ukulele and practised songs and is still doing this two weeks later. He also learnt a bit on the keyboard. I think it increased his confidence generally. Thanks to all the teachers, the energy you put into it is unbelievable!” – Maria (Mum of John, aged 8)
