Courses for All Ages & Abilities

Piano / Keyboard
The piano is perhaps the best known of all musical instruments. Very few other instruments can evoke such feelings of envy and excitement. Learning and studying piano technique is a multi-faceted affair. Tuition is available on an individual basis for students of all ages and levels, those learning for fun and also students preparing for exams. Keyboard is available on an individual basis also.
Examinations covered include the Royal Irish Academy of Music (held in Dun Laoghaire School of Music), ABRSM and In-house
exams are also available.

Guitar Lessons
Lessons are available for students of all ages and levels in acoustic, classical, electric and bass guitar and also ukulele. Tuition is available for those learning for fun and also students preparing for exams.
Weekly classes are 30, 45, or 60 minutes in length depending on the proficiency level of the student. Examinations covered include the Royal Irish Academy of Music (held in Dun Laoghaire School of Music), the Associated of the Royal Schools of Music and Trinity Guildhall. In-house exams are also available.

Voice Lessons
Individual singing classes are available for students from the age of 8 upwards. A variety of styles is on offer ranging from jazz and pop to traditional and classical. Students are coached on the different techniques used for vocal training including posture, diaphramatic breathing, mouth positioning, clear tone production, tuning, intonation, phrasing and expression. They are exposed to a broad repertoire within their preferred styles and the classes are designed to impart confidence and provide a positive and enriching experience. Tuition is available for those learning for fun and also students preparing for exams.

Violin Lessons
The violin is an instrument of special quality and has long been a favourite solo instrument of many composers. It is by far the more popular of the stringed instruments and has perhaps the greatest musical repertoire of any instrument. Drum Lessons
Drum lessons are tailored to your needs, taking a structured approach to help you achieve your goals – whether it be learning to read drum tablature, gain qualifications or improve your performance on stage or in the studio. Tuition is available on an individual basis for students of all ages and levels, those learning for fun and also students preparing for exams.

Woodwind
Woodwind - Saxophone, Clarinet & Recorder
Classes are available for students of all ages and levels in saxophone, clarinet and recorder, those learning for fun and also students preparing for exams.

Examinations covered include the Royal Irish Academy of Music (held in Dun Laoghaire School of Music), the Associated of the Royal Schools of Music and the London College of Music. In-house exams are also available.

Harp

Junior & Leaving Cert Music Theory & Technology
Classes are available for students of all ages and levels in Irish and Concert Harp.
Weekly classes are 30, 45, or 60 minutes in length depending on the proficiency level of the student.
Graded Theory
Individual and group classes are available at all levels and are strongly recommended for all students taking instrumental tuition above grade 4 standard Junior & Leaving Certificate Theory.
Dun Laoghaire School of Music offers a comprehensive Junior and Leaving Cert music programme including Music Technology for the Leaving Cert. These classes are available on a group or individual basis.
Music Technology
In recent years the rapid developments in computer technology and the relatively low cost of the personal computer and recording equipment has meant that more musicians are recording music in their own homes. Dun Laoghaire School of Music offers two courses entitled 'An Introduction to Music Technology' and ' Leaving Cert. Music Technology'. These are intensive courses using state of the art computer and recording equipment, which focus on the practical application of these technologies. Areas covered include midi-sequencing, digital audio recording and editing and computer assisted score editing.

Multi-Instrumental Classes
This is a group class designed for students who have not yet decided what instrument they would like to learn. The students will be introduced to different combinations of instruments which may include piano, keyboard, drums or guitar and will concentrate on each of the selected instruments for a designated number of weeks.
This class can also been done on a one to one basis.
